Course Description: Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program classes can be 3 to 6 weeks long depending on hours of each day.
63 hours of classroom training and lab with no direct patient care involved.
40 hours of direct patient care in a nursing home facility.
Course Purpose: Nurse Aide Training in San Marcos will prepare students to be able to work in many different settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, clinics, in home care, and assisted livings.
Course Outline:
To provide nurse aides with skills, knowledge and abilities to provide basic care to residents in long term care facilities.
Communicate and interact with residents and their families based on needs of each resident
Assist residents on maintaining functional independence
To always protect and support resident’s rights
To observe and report
Function effectively as a care team member
Type of Certification: Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the student will receive a Certificate of Completion for the Nurse Aide Training Program and approval to take the Prometric Texas Nurse Aide Exam
The Nurse Aide Training and Competency Clinical Evaluation Program consists of classes lasting 2-3 weeks depending on the length and frequency. Students will complete 40 hours of direct patient care in a nursing facility. This course is designed to prepare students to work in a variety of settings, including skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, clinics, in-home care, and assisted living facilities.
This course is designed to equip nurse aides with the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to provide basic care to residents in nursing facilities. Foster effective communication and interaction with residents and their families. Assist residents in maintaining functional independence while upholding and protecting residents' rights at all times. The student will learn to observe and report changes in residents' conditions and function effectively as a member of a care team.
1. You must pass a NATCEP performance skills test before being accepted into the clinical program. The skills tested will be selected from the performance record (NATCEP form 5497).
2. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Those under 18 will require written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
3. You are required to submit a copy of your High School Diploma or GED. If you have not obtained either, you will need to find a facility to take the TABE or CASAS tests and provide a hard copy of your results. If you are still in high school, you can submit a copy of your high school transcript.
Additionally, you will need:
- A valid ID and Social Security Card
- A negative TB test
- Successful completion of a criminal history check with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Note: You cannot have a conviction for any offenses listed in Texas Health and Safety Code, §250.006(a) or §250.006(b) within five years before starting the training program.
- Proof of employable status on the EMR website
- No revoked or suspended status on the NAR database
- A certificate of completion for the 60-hour computer-based training program.
